Laureen Hodges Urey
She/her/hers
Hi, I’m Laureen. I’m a creative, compassionate editor committed to your process, your voice, and your story. Thanks so much for joining me. Grab your favorite beverage (mine’s Earl Grey tea), find a comfy spot, and let’s chat.
I am a freelance developmental editor, line editor, proofreader, and certified copyeditor. I love working with authors in the following areas: children’s literature (fiction and nonfiction), creative nonfiction, poetry, and historical fiction.
My goal is to broaden the range of ideas and cultural perspectives represented in published materials. By providing a variety of editing, book design, and writing services, I help independent authors through the publishing process.
I enjoy the creative and collaborative work in book production—using art, text, layout, and typography to tell an author’s best story. When not working, you can find me hiking, gardening, playing music, or hanging with family and friends.
The best way to reach me is through email at laureen@lhuedits.com, followed by a get to know you conversation in person, via video conference, or by telephone call.
My guiding principles
- Care about people, place, and planet.
- Maintain an author’s style, tone, and voice at all times.
- Encourage new ideas, stories, and perspectives.
- Ensure writings are clear, concise, consistent, correct, and comprehensible.
- Provide customized, cost-effective services.
- Keep learning and have fun!
